How did you qualify for your current job? I studied a Bachelor of Social Science majoring in criminology. While studying, I volunteered at Fairfield City Council as a Community Safety and Crime Prevention Support Officer. This allowed me to gain experience that helped skill me for my current role. What does your job entail? My job mainly involves organising and supporting a range of programs for the community and working in partnership with local organisations and schools to provide opportunities to better the local community. What do you like best about your job? I have been overwhelmed by the amount enthusiasm and support from local youth willing to give up their free time to participate in programs that benefit our community. What’s your biggest achievement so far? I am working on a number of projects that are still in the developing stages that I am very excited and proud to be a part of. I cannot wait for them to come to fruition. What’s the biggest challenge? As this is my first full-time job, I am still learning the art of multitasking and prioritising work. It is a fast-paced and challenging work environment, but at the same time it is also very rewarding. What do you like most about working at Strathfield? Strathfield is such a unique and diverse area. This makes our job interesting and challenging and keeps us on our toes. I also love the people of Strathfield. They are so friendly and welcoming. Do you have a favourite place in Strathfield? I just love the beautiful trees that line the streets, the heritage houses and buildings, and the beautiful parks. If you could accomplish one thing for Strathfield, what would it be? To provide opportunities for youth that will better their future. For example, volunteer opportunities that they can list on their resumes to help get them into tertiary education or assist in obtaining employment. ALYSSA MUSCAT Community Safety and Youth Officer
