Adrian Dean Comedy Magician Ms Sawle-Parsons was pulled over by police on January 12 for smoking in her car. Officers then conducted a random breath-test and found she had a mid-range reading. Ms Sawle-Parsons and her partner were returning from the city after taking their children to a Chaka Khan concert in the Domain. They parked in Strathfield and took the train. Outside the court, Ms Sawle- Parsons told the Scene: “There is no excuse for me smoking in the car. I know it’s bad and my kids hate it. “I really let them down and I will never do it again. I’m a good mother and I just made a mistake.” Ms Sawle-Parsons was sentenced to a six-month driving suspension and received a $500 fine. Steve Devine: Property Report See Page 23 “I’m lucky to have not been sentenced to a jail term. This whole experience has been horrible and I will never do it again,” she said tearfully. “But the thing that hurts the most is that I’ve let my kids down. We live 10 kilometres from the school and now they have to catch a train and a bus. I feel like I’ve punished my children.” Alocal real estate agent has broken his own record for the highest priced house sale in Strathfield – $6.8 million. His agency, Georges Ellis & Co, achieved the record this month with the same Llandilo Avenue home that won the same record seven years ago. Joseph Georges sold the six- bedroom, seven-garage property with swimming pool and tennis court to a local family. He first landed the suburb record in 2007 when he sold the same house for $5.75 million – meaning the property has gained more than $1 million in six years. The result comes as new statistics show Strathfield’s average house price has risen 9 per cent in a year, surfing off the back of the Inner West’s position as one of Sydney’s hottest property spots. According to statistics from Australian Property Monitors, the average house price in Strathfield is now $1.470 million. A breakdown of the area by APM, however, shows even higher growth. Homebush experienced the biggest growth in the Strathfield Local Government Area – house prices increased by more than 15 per cent. The average price tag for a house in Homebush is now close to $900,000. North Strathfield has had the strongest growth over the past year. At 24.4 per cent, the average price for a house there is now over $1.1 million. Dr Andrew Wilson, a senior economist at APM told Fairfax Media: “It is a boom, there is no doubt about it. The Sydney market has been supercharged by record levels of investor and changeover buyer activity in the $1 million to $2 million price ranges.” Mr Georges said of his record sale: “This is a fantastic result and it sets a new benchmark for the area. It proves the Inner West is the strongest market in NSW... and it reinforces Strathfield as a prestigious leafy suburb – the oasis of the Inner West.” Images of the home on Llandilo Avenue, Strathfield, were posted online a few days before Christmas. It was expected to be auctioned on March 29. But in less than six weeks a local family snapped up the house. Mr Georges, a Georges Ellis & Co director, is ecstatic to have won the record again, even if it meant he broke his own achievement. The record-breaking property was extensively renovated in 2007. It spans 1972 square metres and has a tennis court, heated pool, outdoor entertaining terrace, spa, wine cellar and security surveillance. Record breaker: The Llandilo Avenue home that fetched $6.8m in a sale by Georges Ellis & Co. A36-year-old mother caught drink-driving and smoking in Strathfield, with her three children in the back seat of her car, was suspended from driving and given a fine. But Veanka Sawle-Parsons told the Scene outside Burwood Court she was lucky to only receive the suspension and it had taught her a valuable lesson.
