JUNE 2012 16 Strathfield Scene SPECIAL BUSINESS By John Fernando Two Strath eld businesses, Devine Real Estate and Terry White Chemists, have triumphed over a eld of nearly 2000 contestants to win big in the 2012 Inner West Local Business Awards. With 16,938 votes cast, Devine Real Estate was voted Business of the Year and Real Estate Company of the Year. Meanwhile, Strath eld Plaza's Terry White Chemist pharmacist Manager Eric Wong was voted 2012 Businessperson of the Year. In what is a huge feather in the cap for Strath eld, the awards have recognised the exceptional customer service and the high standards of business entrepreneurship and management of the two companies. "For us at Devine Real Estate, the 2012 Business of the Year Award is recognition of all the hard work that our team puts into helping our customers enjoy the best possible service in our industry," says Steve Devine, director of Devine Real Estate. "It cites our entire team's hard work, not just those in the public realm, but also the ones behind the scenes like our dedicated accounts and IT sta , who put in a lot of e ort to go that extra mile for customers." It's this level of commitment, hard work and determination that has helped propel Devine Real Estate to the highest echelon of the real estate industry in Sydney's inner west. Established in 1955 by Devine's father George, Devine Real Estate currently has 1500 properties on their books and boasts a full complement of almost 40 sta members. In recent years the business has expanded its operations with branch o ces in Concord and Drummoyne. "Strath eld is an excellent location and we are proud to be associated with the area," says Devine. "It is a central location and boasts a diverse demographic of people. Demand for residential properties in Strath eld has stayed strong, even when market conditions have been so ." Devine's business has been booming for several years, and the current economic doom and gloom is not dampening his plans for the future. "Expansion of our business is very much on the cards," says Devine. "Despite market conditions being the worst I've seen in 27 years, we at Devine are positive about our growth prospects and continued business expansion. We know we can't control external circumstances, but we can certainly control what we can do. We at Devine rmly believe in a positive approach to our business. "Strath eld and the whole inner west is an excellent area to invest in. Growth has been strong in this region and there is an excellent demographic mix , to which we cater with the highest standards of ser vice. Meanwhile Wong, pharmacist manager of Terry White Chemists at Strath eld Plaza, has a ributed his 2012 Businessperson of the Year Award to the combined team e ort of his sta members. He dedicates his win to the hard work and enthusiasm his sta puts into providing the best customer ser vice for every patron of the pharmacy. He also thanks his customers for the opportunity to ser vice their pharmacy needs. " is award is an incredible honour ," says Wong. "I feel that there were many other worthy candidates. It's rewarding to be recognised for all the long hours we put into the business. It's also a huge recognition for the team because, although it is an individual award, I couldn't have done it without the support of the team." Wong has about 25 sta members on his team. He manages the business operations at Terry White Chemists in Strath eld with retail manager Tracey King and is also involved in dispensing. Last year, their branch also won the Outstanding Pharmacy Award, in addition to the Youth Award for Cecilia Chang, a pharmacist-on-duty at the dispensary. "It is humbling to win three trophies within two consecutive years" Wong says. "Our team is a friendly, compassionate and dedicated unit that cares for our customers. Our pharmacy is not just another business, but is one where we look to reach out to people who may need a holistic solution to their health, wellness and beauty needs. It is great to see our ser vice bring about positive changes in peoples' lives." Wong grew up in Adelaide and worked there as a pharmacist. ree years ago he moved to Strath eld, as the opportunity to manage a bigger pharmacy here arose. He is also studying for his Master's in Business Administration and can speak Cantonese, Mandarin and English. "Strath eld is certainly very di erent to my experience in Adelaide," he says. "It's a lot more diverse and busy here. Being in Strath eld has enabled me to be er understand the dynamics of di erent cultures. We at Terry White Chemists truly appreciate the wide demographics of Strath eld.. "As part of our commitment to our customers, we are looking to continue extending our services to the community. ere is a wide scope of ser vices that we are engaged in, including free local deliveries and blood pressure measurements, a Webster packing service and the Tony Ferguson Weightloss program.
