HOW MANY ANIMALS DO YOU HAVE? Too many – I’ve got a cat, three goats, four sheep, three pigs and numerous assorted chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits, geese, dogs and horses. WHAT’S THE MOST POPULAR ANIMAL WITH CHILDREN? Kids love the mini pets – the guinea pigs, chickens and baby bunnies, because they can sit and cuddle them and also feed them. Chickens are always very entertaining. WHAT DO CHILDREN LEARN FROM ANIMALS? They learn where food comes from, that milk comes from cows and goats, and that chickens produce eggs. WHAT IS THE IDEAL PET FOR CHILDREN? I think chickens make excellent pets – they require less attention and care than guinea pigs or rabbits, and they also produce eggs. DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVOURITES? I guess Tommy the goat is my favourite – he often wanders into my kitchen at home. WHAT’S IT LIKE WORKING WITH ANIMALS? It’s changed my life. I’ve always loved animals, and I’m a litigation support analyst in the city. Now I work just three days a week and the rest of the time, I spend taking care of my animals.
