How long Have you Had your security business? i bought the business about eight years ago but it has been around for 35 years so i’m carrying on the legacy. How did you get into tHe security business in tHe first place? i did an apprenticeship 25 years ago and then i just built up my own business, westside locks, and then i took over securetek in Homebush. wHat were you doing before buying your own business? i worked in the fire brigade for about 10 years and i had to eventually make a decision between being a fireman and being a locksmith. so i chose the security industry – and i haven’t looked back. wHat is tHe weirdest tHing you’ve seen on tHe job? a couple of years ago, a man came in with a chain and lock around his genitals and he couldn’t get it off. one of our young apprentices had to pick the lock – needless to say he was paid more that day. wHat’s tHe best part of your job? i enjoy the deadlines and being able to work with a range of different clients. we do a lot of big state and national contracts and we do the security for banks and fast-food chains, so there’s always something different to do. wHat’s tHe best part about working in HomebusH? it’s a central location and the business has been here for 35 years, so we are well-established and there’s a great community vibe here. everyone knows who we are.
