your business leads come from, how many sales are being made, the average value of sales and whether there is any repeat business is a reliable way to boost your performance. Simpson started his business, Action Coach, after a 20-year career in accounting, sales, marketing and franchise development. He has worked with more than 15,000 businesses from small operations to some of the biggest companies in the world. His philosophy is simple and effective and includes building robust business structures that will operate without you. Simpson handed out his words of wisdom as well practical sales tracking forms to more than 30 business owners. The network has been set up by the Strathfield Council under its economic development plan, as an opportunity for business owners in the area to get to know each other and to facilitate growth in the business sector. Network evenings will be held regularly and will feature practical talks, like Simpson’s, from small business orientated speakers. The evening was sponsored by the council and the Commonwealth Bank in Strathfield. Commonwealth Bank manager Maroun El Khoury said the focus of the bank is getting back to being local and he encouraged people to contact the branch and tell them what services they want from a bank. “ We have done poorly in the past and we know that,” he said. Now the bank is on a mission to attract back local and small businesses from the community and part of that effort includes supporting the Strathfield Small Business Network. Apart from sponsoring the talk by Simpson, the Commonwealth Bank also gave an hour’s free individual consultation, to be used at a later date, to each business owner who attended the meeting. For further information about the network contact Strathfield Council’s Economic Development Officer on 9748 9999. By Natalie O’Brien The Strathfield Small Business Network was launched last month in a move designed to give local business owners the chance to meet each other, get to know the services available in the area and to source advice from business experts. At the inaugural meeting, network members were introduced to each other and to council staff responsible for economic development, and were also given some tips on how to make their businesses more successful. Action business coach Mark Simpson was asked to speak to the business owners about ways to improve their sales and profitability. Simpson advised them that there are five simple ways to increase sales and profitability – but testing and measuring your business with a proper sales tracking system is one of the most important steps to take. “Knowing your numbers is the most important area of your business,” he said.
