2 Strathfield Scene Neville Rolfe has worked with Rail Corp since he left school and has been station master at Strathfield Station since 1991. What led you iNto youR job? it ran in the family. My uncles were with Rail Corp. i did think of joining the police force, but i wasn’t heavy enough. What’S youR aveRage day like? if there’s nothing urgent like an accident or broken lift, i perform a morning inspection then manage a staff of 80. i handle all problems and complaints, prepare for track work and deal with late trains. What’S the MoSt eNjoyable paRt of youR job? encouraging the best from my staff and getting people where they want to go. i’ve also met a lot of travellers and interesting people. Who’S the NiCeSt peRSoN you’ve Met? i met my wife at ashfield Station, and we’ve been married for over 30 years. What’S the WoRSt paRt of youR job? Seeing accidents – we’ve had many people [fall] under trains – and the effects it has on my staff. also, it’s hard seeing the homeless people at the station. i try to help out with food. What doeS the futuRe hold? i don’t like the word retire, so i’ll change careers. Superannuation is good here, so i might get into investments. i [also] dream of owning a racehorse.
